In the Fall of 2005
CASA expanded our
K-5 offerings to include
a transitional program
for sixth grade students
called Club Six.
Club Six has succeeded in meeting our goals:
• To create a safe, enriching, creative and inspiring after school environment for sixth grade students at Rooftop School.
• To offer quiet, assisted homework time.
• To train sixth grade students as conflict resolution managers.
• To implement a mentoring system between sixth graders and younger CASA students involving conflict resolution, role-playing, and creative play.
• To encourage self exploration and self-esteem through creative arts instruction.
• To teach respect and responsibility for peers and community.
• To help ease the awkward transition from elementary to middle school.
Club Six grew and evolved over the year and is now stronger than ever. Our Club Six director, Dawn Revilla, leads an enriching, fun, and relaxing program. Along with plenty of quiet, assisted homework time, Club Six offers classes in visual and performing arts and many other disciplines. Our sixth graders regularly explore the city's museums on afternoon outings, and delve into San Francisco's richly creative nightlife on our monthly nights out on the town.
Club Six kids will also have workshops with other CASA teachers, ensuring their exposure to many art forms. These classes include playwriting, acting, fashion design, magical arts, break dancing and poetry. In addition to these classes, our sixth graders will gain invaluable skills as conflict mediators. They will have opportunities to put these skills into action through a mentoring program with our younger students.
Dawn picks up the 6th graders at Mayeda and walks them up to the Burnett campus where Club Six resides in B-202 (Mr. Lane's bungalow).
The fees for Club Six range from $175 - $370 monthly depending on attendance. Scholarships are available to those who qualify.
